Jada Vineyard Folklore

2010-03-31

Origin of the name Jada

The name of a fishing boat in the village of Castellammare de Golfo (Castle by the Sea); a city in northern Sicily. Jack Messina’s father was born near there and immigrated to the USA at age 11. We will leave it up to your imagination how much of this is actually factual.

Origin of XCV

The Roman numerals actually represent the number “95" - a score we some day hope Jada wines will attain. More importantly, it stands for “ex-CV (cardiovascular) surgeon,” a goal Jack hopes to achieve soon.

Origin of Hell’s Kitchen

An area on the west side of New York that still exists today. Based on the contrary, the TV show did not come up with the name. It was an area populated Initially by Italian immigrants after they arrived into New York City. It is where Jack’s parents met.

Origin of Jersey Girl

In honor of Jack’s lovely wife Robyn, who unfortunately was born there. Jack loves Bruce Springsteen’s and Tom Waits versions of “Jersey Girl” and would expect to hear it frequently in the tasting room.

Origin of Mirror

One of the many beautiful lakes in Lakeland, Florida. It is often the center of Charitable events, etc.; a tribute to Jack’s adopted home.

Origin of Passing By

TTB (Tobacco, Tax & Trade Bureau) rules require that there is no reference to anything related to health. Jack performs coronary artery bypass frequently, therfore the name has been reversed to protect the innocent. It has also taken on a life of its own. The wine now has a mystical, almost zen-like, philosophical feel to it. You are free to reflect on what we are 'passing by.' Origin of Jack Of Hearts The truth is that Jack Messina is actually a heart surgeon and not just a farmer. While it is true that his real appellation is Jack, it is another story why his second name is John.
